What Are the Different Thermal Insulation Options?

Air Seal Insulation Systems

The attic can be the first place for energy loss. If you don’t have the right insulation installed in your attic, you can often end up paying a hefty electricity bill.Air Seal IS has a variety of insulation materials to satisfy their respective clients. We can install different insulation types within your attic as per your requirement.

Fiberglass

Fiberglass insulation is the more affordable option but it doesn’t have the same R-value as spray foam but it's good & long-lasting.

HFO Insulation

It offers the same thermal efficiency and effectiveness as spray foam, but it comes with a thinner layer compared to SPF.

Cellulose

Cellulose insulation is made of recycled paper that's been treated with fire which is a wonderful option for those who are seeking to add the perfect layer of protection.

Spray foam

The most well recognized is the spray foam where we apply polyurethane insulation that can be either open or closed cells.

Mineral Wool

Another option is mineral wool which is a great fire retardant. We cover beams & columns for commercial structures.

FAQs - Attic Insulation in NYC

Frozen gutter lines are a common problem during wintertime. When the temperature outside drops, the water in your gutters can freeze and expand, causing the gutters to rupture. One of the best ways to prevent this from happening is by insulating your attic. By doing so, you can keep your home warm and prevent the water in your gutters from freezing.

The lifespan of attic insulation depends on the type of material used. For example, fiberglass insulation can last for up to 40 years, while cellulose insulation can last for up to 100 years. However, the lifespan of attic insulation can be reduced if it is not installed properly or if it is damaged.

Yes, you can add extra insulation over existing insulation. However, there are a few things you need to understand first. You will first have to identify what is the cause behind the deterioration of the previous insulation. Let’s say if your previous insulation deteriorated because of dampening, then you will have to make sure that the new insulation you’re going to add is moisture-resistant. And before you proceed with the insulation installation, it is advised that you make sure to resolve the dampening process by applying a more robust solution.

A few insulation types which can be installed over others are fiberglass or cellulose insulation types. Make sure that no two different types of insulation should overlap each other.

You can always choose to remove the previous insulation first & then eventually replace it with another insulation type. Otherwise, you can layer up the same insulations.

When it comes to the R-value of insulation material, most attics require a value of about 38. If you’re living in a colder region, the number can go as much as up to 48 or even more.

Even if you’re one of the trained experts, finding an air leak is not always an easy job. It requires a keen eye & professional expertise to see where the draftiness is happening. You can always go for finding out the best sources of where the chilly air is coming into your premises. It can be openings in your windows, doors, patched walls or other similar locations. These entry points can be better treated with insulation types with better R-values.

By covering these entry points, you can eventually get rid of the draftiness problem.
